Sick Baby

Well we are no longer lucky to have not had a truly sick baby. (Virus wise) Kenneth first had a stuffy nose after we got back from our trip Memorial Day weekend. Wasn't to bad, we gave him Tylenol when his fever was higher then we liked and let him sleep as much as he liked. We also put our humidifier in his room to help him breath at night just in case.
By Saturday June 2nd he seemed much better. That night he was sleeping in his crib and we hadn't yet put him in his pjs plus needed his diaper changed. So I went in to take care of that. He woke up a little, and then threw up a lot. It was quite disgusting. I called Tim in and he helped clean him up. Luckily he went back down to bed with out much fuss.
Sunday we went to church and he seemed fine. Had a couple diarrhea diapers which I had always wondered how you could tell the difference between regular diapers but surprisingly it's not hard. When we got back from church he took a much needed nap. Later when we were at our friends he threw up the bottle Tim was feeding him. We had been trying to give him some pedilyte but he wouldn't take it very well and Tim wanted to give him a bottle. We gave him a much needed bath and once we got back home he went to bed.
Monday he woke up at his normal time and Tim was kind to feed him as much pedilyte as he would take. I had an appointment that day and off we went to it. He took his bottle just fine. When we got back home after running errands after the appointment he was ready to eat again. He only ate about 5 ounces before he threw it all up again. So I decided it was time to call to take him in. Especially since I hadn't had to change his diaper all day, and normally needed to do it at least twice by that time. He luckily slept until it was time to go and then as we were heading out the door, running late, he threw up all over me. I cleaned up as much as possible and headed to the doctor. The doctor said he wasn't looking dehydrated yet and give him as much pedilyte for the next 24 hours as he would take. Then do half pedilyte and half formula for the next 24 hours

Those next two days were tough Kenneth hated the Pedilyte and only took it when he hadn't eaten anything in a long long time. Especially after we added the formula in on Wednesday. But we thankfully had no throwing up.

So Thursday we gave him a regular bottle in the morning and back to sleep he went. When he woke back up I gave him another and he only got about 6 oz down where he had been drinking 8 and then proceeded to throw it all up on the futon, which we had just barely washed the sheet before. He did that again two other times, thus emptying his stomach, and making a mess all over our carpet. I then called Elizabeth to see if she had any advice. She mentioned that he might be slightly lactose intolerant for a couple days, luckily we had some lactose free formula that he'd be switching too since the formula he was on that had rice starch in it wasn't helping his spiting up at all. We tried that and giving him smaller dosages afterwards and he did much better.

Friday when he woke up I gave him another bottle and he didn't make through the bottle before he was throwing it all up. So I proceeded to call the doctor and they got me in at 9:30. We went in and the doctor said he was still looking fine for what was happening. So instead he mentioned just to get him back on the formula. Since we had still been giving him the pedilyte to try and help him out. But it was pretty much not worth it since he fought it so much.

Saturday was the same thing. gave him a bottle Tim put him back to bed and he proceeded to throw up. :( Luckily Tim heard him and it started our day off interestingly to say the least he was not a happy camper to say the least. Despite all this he's still as happy as he normally is except after he throw's up but I don't blame him. Hoping this ends soon!

I totally feel your pain. Jackson did that for a while. It was AWFUL! That's when the doctor had me try going off all milk, but I think it was a virus. Hopefully it gets better for you soon. Good luck. Oh, receiving blankets are great for cleaning up baby throw up and protecting yourself from it....

I'm so sorry Rachel I hope Kenneth is starting to feel better! We had a rough time when Brynlee got a really bad cold that almost turned into RSV when she was about a month old so I definitely understand that it can be scary, but I'm sure you're doing all you can. Hang in there though it won't last forever!
