Behavioral Control: Parents monitor child behavior and hold children accountable when they misbehave. This is necessary for when used appropriately. Something that most of us naturally do in loving sweet ways to ensure our children don't continue on something that is harmful for them.
Psychological control: is consider to be deleterious, regardless of it's tone or level Barber states it's defined as a rather insidious type of control that potentially inhibits or intrudes upon psychological development through manipulation and exploitation of the parent child bond (eg love-withdrawal and guilt induction), negative affect-laden expressions and criticisms (eg disappointment and shame), and excessive personal control (eg possessiveness, protectiveness) The tactics used in this form hurt and damaged parent-child relationships, some of which eventually lead to discontinuation of the relationship.
